If your child is absent, a note stating the reason for the absence must be brought to school as soon as possible to avoid an unexcused absence.  Please do not send this information in an email.  If your child saw a doctor, please get the note from the doctor.

We will go to Art class once every 8 days.  Our art teacher is Mrs. Dellinger.

B

Breakfast is served each morning from 6:45am to 7:15am.  The cost for breakfast is $1.50.

Birthdays are special for all of us!  Please do not send birthday party invitations to be distributed at school unless all children receive an invitation.  You can also send in invitations for either all the girls or all the boys in the class.

C

You must have a car tag in order to pick up your child as a car rider in the afternoons.  If you lose or misplace your tag, you will be required to park and go to the office to check your child out.

Parent and Teacher conferences are held twice a year.  Watch for information and reply accordingly.    Feel free to request a conference any time you would like to discuss your child’s progress.

Discipline is simple. We work as a class to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all.  The entire school uses the ‘Essential Ten’ and Be Statements: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, for rules and behavior.  I will notify you by a letter or phone call for ‘significant’ or ‘repetitive’ poor choices/behavior.  I want to give the children a chance to correct the behavior themselves. They can earn behavior dollars to shop at the behavior store at the end of each month.

E

Email me if you ever have a problem, concern, or question.  My email is [email protected] If there is an emergency change in transportation during the school day, you must notify the school office.

F

Your child will be bringing home a take-home folder every day.  Please check this each night and remove any papers. Then return the folder to school the following day.  You can use the folder to send me notes, money, ect.  If you have something else for your child to give me, please remind them or write me a note because I do not go through their backpacks.

As of right now we will not be taking any field trips this year.  If we get to during the year, information will come home in the folder and will be detailed in the field trip permission slip and weekly newsletter.   Please sign and return all permission slips and/or money promptly.

G

We will have gym (PE) class about twice a week.  Mrs. Raynor and Mr. Loveday are our PE teachers.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes to school each day. *Girls need to wear shorts under their dresses/skirts.

H

There is no grade level homework this year.  Students will an extra practice folder if you would like them to do homework.  Activities should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.  Reading to your child regularly is very important to help them prepare for first grade.

I

Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.  Kindergarteners are very capable of doing many things on their own, and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.  Please work on the following self-help skills at home with your child:  zipping, tying, dressing, etc.

J

Writing takes place every day in kindergarten.  One way we accomplish this is through writing stories in our journals during our writing time.  Encourage your child to write at home for a variety of purposes.  We will write on a variety of different materials to make writing fun also (paper plates, paper bags, etc.)

K

Keep updated by reading the classroom newsletter every week and checking your child’s folder every day for other notes and information.  I will send home a newsletter at the beginning of every month.  You can also find a wealth of information on our class webpage.

We will visit the library once every 8 days.  Our librarian is Mrs. Pitts.  Your child will check out a book when we visit the library and return it within the following week.  If your child forgets to return the book, they will not be allowed to check out a new book until it is returned.

Our class eats lunch from 10:24-10:50. Your child may purchase a tray from the cafeteria.  Lunch costs $2.75.  If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in an envelope and place it inside their take home folder.  Feel free to send lunch money weekly or monthly.  The cost for milk is 50 cents.   As of now, parents are not allowed in the building so you will not be able to eat lunch with your child. We will also be eating lunch in the classroom every other week.

M

We will have music class once every 8 days.  Our music teacher is Ms. Burnett.

Please send all money to school in a sealed envelope or baggie with the following information clearly written on the outside:  your child’s name, my name, how much money is enclosed, and what the money is for.  This will ensure the money makes its way back to me in case an envelope is accidentally dropped or misplaced.  You must send separate checks to pay for separate things.  For example, you can’t include the payment for lunch and a field trip on one check.  If you pay with a check please make sure that two different phone numbers are on the check.  The school is suggesting that parents use the meal pay plus app.  Message me if you need help with that.

If your child has any changes in their transportation, please let me know in writing as soon as possible.  You cannot email me changes in transportation.  If an emergency change occurs during the day, call the school office.

Tennis shoes are the preferred shoe of Kindergarten!  We go to recess and SMART every day and tennis shoes are much safer when we are climbing, jumping, and running.

U

It is unbelievable how much your child will learn this year!

Please send in an extra set of clothes for your child (shirt, pants, socks, underclothes, mask). These items should be in a gallon sized bag and labeled with your child’s name on the outside of the bag.  Your child will keep these clothes in case an accident or spill happens.

Y

You are your child’s first teacher and we value your participation in learning!

Z

Zzzzzzz’s are very important! Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest.  There is no rest time in Kindergarten and we will be working hard all day long.  Being well rested will help your child do his/her very best work at school.
